Family & Friends

So we’re getting to the point where birthdays aren’t supposed to be a big deal…but my friends and family insist on making it the best day ever! It was a normal work day sprinkled with friendly emails, phone calls, and flowers from Mom & Chris. I didn’t make any plans tonight because I thought we had a soccer game and we have plans Thursday and Friday. It turned out we had a bye so I went to yoga. When I came home I saw this sign on the garage door…

So I went in and found…

Awesome! A new bike!! I haven’t had one since my college bike died a few years ago. I’ve been borrowing my husband’s and then aching from the seat. I am so excited! After I sat on the bike a little while, my husband made a nice healthy dinner, Cooking Light’s Rice Noodles with Tofu and Bok Choy, only with bean thread noodles and no tofu.

As my niece once said, today is the best day ever!

The namesakes of this blog are another year older! Happy Birthday Steph! and Casey too! Here’s a novelty twin picture of us dressed identically (we were bridesmaids) to celebrate our shared birthday.

Padres sent flowers to work - they are beautiful. Thank you!

Thanks to everyone who gave us birthday shout outs. Back atcha.

Where do I draw the line between stephandstace.com subject matter and ohorafamily.com subject matter? That is the dilemma. I previously determined that ohorafamily would be “family” stuff and stephandstace would be “interests/hobbies/food/friends”. But Steph and I are so into our fams that it is hard to separate the two sometimes. So last weekend was Father’s Day and I think it could probably go on either blog but it’s here because it has a food picture and because I just posted Robby’s Bachelor party pics and I don’t want to steal attention from that!

Last weekend, Father’s Day weekend ended up being of the best weekends I’ve had in a while. I am mad at myself because I brought my camera with me the entire time but I didn’t take any pictures except the two below.

Robby and I managed to catch up with the 3 dads in our lives and spend some quality time with each one. On Friday night, we worked on our wedding registries until 3am, then Saturday we went out to dinner with Mary, Bob, Holly, and Keith for Father’s Day. We ate at Cantina and it was delicious as always (you’re talking to the clean plate award winner). Then we headed over to Carpool and had few cocktails and then went home. Sunday we headed out the ‘Burg and had brunch with Mom & Chris. I made VwaV’s Lemon Corn Waffles with Blueberry Sauce yum. We hung out, walked around the yard, checking out all of the cool things Mom & Chris have done to it this year. Then we headed to Dad & Georgia’s and had crabs by the pool with Sarah, Becca, Stuart, GB, and Dad. We ate crabs, caught up, talked wedding, and soaked up the rays. What a great weekend.

VwaV’s Lemon Corn Waffles with Blueberry Sauce
Here’s a picture of the waffles. I made these because I know Chris loves blueberries. It was really funny to hear him say “I don’t eat that vegan stuff” and I said “How do you know it isn’t vegan?” and he said “It isn’t vegetables! It’s fruit. It is f-egan!”. These were delicious. I am really into the Lemon/Blueberry combination lately, plus I love anything with cornmeal in it, cornbread, corn muffins, call me Bubba Gump Corn.

I’ve also been wondering what kind of plant I have in my yard. It is growing so fast, and it is so pretty. It has big blue and yellow puffs on it. Here are some of the flowers I cut and put into a vase. Anyone know what these are? Hydrangeas?

So I “Hit You With the Food First” in my last post and I never returned to update you on the important stuff - family and friends. April was so full of fun family and friend events that I didn’t have time to blog about it. So here’s my Post-Easter Catch-Up.

4/14 - Cat’s Bridal Shower, Great Falls, VA
Cat’s shower was beautiful and so much fun. Steph Smith was in town for it and we got to spend some QT together on Friday night working on the games for the shower. At the shower I met almost all of Catherine’s bridesmaids and they were all so nice and beautiful. I even snapped a very low-quality video of gracious Catherine getting a little verklempt. (Reference to the Mike Myers skit, Coffee Talk, from Saturday Night Live, oh come’ on you have to remember that skit!) To see all of my pictures, see Stacey’s Shutterfly Site - link in the right panel.

4/21 - BBQ, Missy & Justin’s House
I got to see Missy & Justin’s remodeling job for the first time, met Missy’s neices for the first time, visited with Kimberly & Carlos, Lisa, Jewel, Gary & Terri, Cindy & Allison, Mom & Chris, enjoyed delicious ‘make-your-own-kebabs’, and I apparently forgot I had a camera! I didn’t take many pictures at all - bummer. I’m glad I had this chance to visit before Justin’s surgery (hope you’re feeling better soon Justin!).

4/27 - Dinner with Holly & Keith, Sweetwater
Friday night we hung out with Holly & Keith and had a yummy dinner at Sweetwater. Although Holly was the one with the knee brace on (she just had surgery and had an infection in her knee), I almost fell down the stairs walking to the bar. Keith is having surgery soon too - what’s up with all these people needing surgery? Someone drank too much wine - can you guess who it was? Name rhymes with with Facey.

4/29 - Mom’s Birthday Brunch, Mom & Chris’ House
Man I’m mad at myself for not taking pictures. Chris and I planned a birthday brunch for mom. Chris made the omelettes, I brought the fruit salad and cooked up Cooking Light’s Lemon-Blueberry Muffins and Herb-Roasted Potatoes from Vegan with a Vengeance. David and Jill came out to the ‘Burg, and we all enjoyed mimosas and catching up with each other. Happy Birthday Day, Mom!

5/1 - Becca’s Birthday Dinner, Melting Pot
Becca had her SWEET SIXTEEN yesterday. I can hardly believe that Becca is already 16, wow time flies. Georgia coordinated a very fun dinner at the Melting Pot in Reston and we ate some fondue and celebrated Becca’s birthday. All of my pictures from last night are posted in my Shutterfly Site. Want to hear us sing to Becca? Watch the video. The table next to us was having a retirement party and joined us in singing Happy Birthday to Becca!

*Note to self - take more pictures and no more mass updates!

Jodi & Jimmy’s wedding on 3/23/07 was a truly beautiful celebration. I had blast and judging from my pictures and videos, it looks like everyone else did too! I’ve been eager to post about the wedding but I was waiting for my lazy self to post my pictures first. I finally posted them into my Shutterfly Collection ( link on right panel). If you need the password, let me know!

The flowers were gorgeous - good job Lauren!

And last but not least…..a very low-quality video taken on my digital camera. I have a digital camcorder on my wish list. Despite the horrible quality of this video, I think you’ll be able to recognize the dancers and get a kick out of it. Please pardon my loud annoying voice, I always forget that the microphone is recording everything.

Congrats Jodi & Jimmy!
