He was great and he was good. I just finished this incredible piece of work by Doris Kearns Goodwin called Team of Rivals the Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln.  It is essentially a group biography of Lincoln and the cabinet that he hand-picked.  It is so well thought out because it allows the reader to analyze not just Lincoln and his experience but also compare him to the other supposedly “great” men of the time.  He was almost inhuman in his ability to rise above past trepasses and make difficult choices for the greater good. I hold him in such high esteem that the obvious end of the book has made me so sad. Please read this book to understand this man and what his plans for our nation were.

ps. For those of you born and raised in Northern Va, this book is especially interesting because the setting and action take place in Washington and the surrounding areas.
